Footnotes

1 For a description of this Register, which contains letters of both Eugenius IV and Nicholas V, see Cal. Lett. VIII, p. 315, note 1. The next four Vatican Registers, Nos. CCCLXXXI, CCCLXXXII, CCCLXXXIII and CCCLXXXIV, belong to Eugenius IV; see ibid., pp. 315–320. The earlier in order Vatican Register No. CCCLXVII contains on ff. 179–199 some Brevia domini Nicolai pape V pontificatus sui anno primo, but neno of them comes within the scope of this Calendar: see Cal. Lett. VIII, p. 263, note 1.
2 The vertical line separates, as usual, what is in the margin at the beginning of each letter from what is at the end of the letter after the date.
