(9 April.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 84.)
To Thomas Preston, a canon of York. Dispensation to him, who has the tonsure only and holds a canonry of York and the prebend of Deyffeld [rectius Dryffeld], not to be obliged (on account of the said prebend, which is without cure, or of any other prebends, perhaps requiring promotion to holy orders, provided that such other prebends be without cure) to have himself promoted to subdeacon's, deacon's or priest's or any other orders. Vite etc. (Pe. de Noxeto. | xx.S. de Spada. Constantinus. Collationata.) [In the margin.Maii. 1 p. +.]

1 A thin volume of only 84 leaves, preceded by the rubricelle. It is described on the back, in gold capitals on a red leather label: ‘Nt. V. S. de C.L. ii. T. xxi,’ which is expanded on a flyleaf, in the hand of Giovanni Bissaiga: ‘Nicolai V. Secret. de Curia. Liber ii. Tom. xxi.’ Inside the modern green leather cover is the front half of the original sheepskin binding, without the usual contemporary description, but with the damaged contemporary note ‘a[ttende] quia non est rubric[at]us totus,’ and other more or less contemporary notes. The contents embrace the sixth, seventh, and eighth years of Nicholas V. On f. 28d. ‘Pe. de Noxeto’ (i.e.Piero da Noceto) is described at greater length, viz. ‘Petrus de Nobilibus de Noxeto, incretarius et familiaris naster,’ under date 1451. 4 Kal. Nov. anno 5.
