To the prior of St. Catherine the Virgin's by Waterford (juxta Watyrffordiam) in the diocese of Waterford (Watyrfforden.), the archdeacon of Waterford and Thomas Oseanchan, a canon of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by John Maclanchay, minister of the Trinitarian house or convent of St. James, Adar, in the diocese of Limerick, that by the neglect of John Lamport, prior or Warden of the Benedictine house or church of St. John the Evangelist by Waterford (juxta Watyrffordiam), in the diocese of Waterford, divine worship is diminished, hospitality not kept, and its buildings in a state of ruin, its fruits etc. dissipated and many of them detained by laymen and, what is worse, the cure of souls of the parishioners of the said priory or wardenship, which is wide, is neglected because he is entirely ignorant of the language of the country) if and after the said John Maclanchay, who is of noble birth, is powerful in those parts, and greatly desires the repair and restoration of the said priory or wardenship, etc., accuses Lamport before the above three, to summon him, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said priory or wardenship, which is not a dignity, depends on the priory of Bath in the diocese of Bath, is wont to be governed by priors or wardens, monks of Bath, removable at the pleasure of the prior of Bath, has cure, and whose value and that of its annexes etc. does not exceed 40 marks sterling, to the said John Maclanchay; notwithstanding that he holds the said ministership, a conventual elective dignity with cure, value [likewise] not exceeding 40 marks sterling, which he is, as he has offered, to resign upon obtaining the said priory or wardenship. He is to wear the habit worn therein, and cannot be removed therefrom for life by any one soever except for his demerits.
