(f. 62.)		 To the archdeacons of Whiteherne and Glasgow and William Gonne, a canon of Rennes (Redonen.). Mandate, at the recent petition of Thomas de Karmichel, rector of Malvil in the diocese of St. Andrews, bachelor in decrees, containing that on the parish church of Kells (de Kellis) (fn. 2) in the diocese of Whiteherne, of the patronage of the king of Scots, becoming void because the late William Heris obtained, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, the parish church of Wygton in the said diocese of Whiteherne, James the present king of Scots presented the said Thomas to the bishop of Whiteherne. Seeing that Ninian bishop of Whiteherne, for no reasonable cause, has refused to institute him, and has, moreover, made by his ordinary authority collation and provision of the said church to Gilbert Magdonale, clerk, of the said diocese of Whiteherne, as being void by the death of the said William, from which refusal and collation etc. Thomas has appealed to the apostolic see, and seeing that the said church is still void by the said obtaining [of that of Wygton], the pope, hereby ratifying the said presentation, orders the above three to collate and assign the said church, value not exceeding 18l. sterling, to Thomas; notwithstanding that he holds the said parish church of Malvil and a canonry of Sodor and the prebend of Kyngart therein, the value of each not exceeding 10l. sterling. The pope hereby dispenses him to receive and retain, for two years only, the said church of Kells, together with that of Malvil, or with one of them any other, or without them any two other parish churches. Reservation to the pope's gift, for collation to him, who is by both parents of noble birth, of the canonry and prebend of Tampolmonin in Limerick, value not exceeding 20 marks sterling, to become void by the promotion, recently made by the pope, of Matthew elect of Killaloe (Laonien.) to that church, and by the consecration which is to be administered to him. Nobilitas generis, vite etc.
Concurrent mandate to the archbishop of Cashel, the bishop of Orte and the abbot of Monasteranenagh (de Mayo) in the diocese of Limerick. Hodie cum canonicatus. (G. de Piccolominibus. | xiii. xi. N. . (f. 78d.)		 To the dean and the archdeacon of Limerick and Ma[u]rice de Geraldinis, a canon of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Dermit Macgyllapadryg, clerk, of the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.), that lately Donatus Maccray, a canon of Killaloe, an open and notorious fornicator, has dilapidated the goods of his canonry of Killaloe and the prebend of Cluoindagat therein, and, what is worse, has caused a riot in which there was enormous bloodshed and slaughter, (fn. 3) incurring irregularity) if and after Dermit (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of an abbot of the order of St. Augustine and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and who from fear of the power of Donatus has no hope of obtaining justice in the city or diocese of Killaloe) accuses Donatus before the above three, to summon Donatus, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, to Dermit; notwithstanding that the pope lately granted him provision of the rectory of the parish church of Kyllichaydi alias of the rural lands of Offlancard (rectius Offlancaid), with cure, and of the rectory, without cure, of ecclesiastical fee in the parish church of Drunteleyv (rectius Drumcleyv), in the said diocese, value not exceeding 8 and 5 marks sterling respectively, with which he is hereby dispensed to receive and retain the said canonry and prebend, notwithstanding the said defect etc. Vite etc. (G. de Piccolominibus. | xxx. To the prior of St. Catherine the Virgin's by Waterford (juxta Watyrffordiam) in the diocese of Waterford (Watyrfforden.), the archdeacon of Waterford and Thomas Oseanchan, a canon of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by John Maclanchay, minister of the Trinitarian house or convent of St. James, Adar, in the diocese of Limerick, that by the neglect of John Lamport, prior or Warden of the Benedictine house or church of St. John the Evangelist by Waterford (juxta Watyrffordiam), in the diocese of Waterford, divine worship is diminished, hospitality not kept, and its buildings in a state of ruin, its fruits etc. dissipated and many of them detained by laymen and, what is worse, the cure of souls of the parishioners of the said priory or wardenship, which is wide, is neglected because he is entirely ignorant of the language of the country) if and after the said John Maclanchay, who is of noble birth, is powerful in those parts, and greatly desires the repair and restoration of the said priory or wardenship, etc., accuses Lamport before the above three, to summon him, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said priory or wardenship, which is not a dignity, depends on the priory of Bath in the diocese of Bath, is wont to be governed by priors or wardens, monks of Bath, removable at the pleasure of the prior of Bath, has cure, and whose value and that of its annexes etc. does not exceed 40 marks sterling, to the said John Maclanchay; notwithstanding that he holds the said ministership, a conventual elective dignity with cure, value [likewise] not exceeding 40 marks sterling, which he is, as he has offered, to resign upon obtaining the said priory or wardenship. He is to wear the habit worn therein, and cannot be removed therefrom for life by any one soever except for his demerits. 1 On the back of the volume is the usual modern red leather label, with: ‘Pii ii. de Cur. A. iii. iv. v. vi. T. xxvii,’ and on the bottom edge of the volume is the usual contemporary description: ‘xxvii. bullarum Pii.’ Inside the volume is a parchment flyleaf, not part of the original binding, but apparently part of an imperfectly erased but only very partially legible notarial instrument, containing inter alia the mutilated text of a bull of Martin V dated at the SS. Apostoli, Rome, Id. Feb. anno 8 (13 Feb. 1425) which apparently consists of a faculty, granted at the instance of Henry king of England, for the rehabilitation of ecclesiastics in England on account of the non-payment of annates and common and mean services. The Rubricelle, of which there are 8 pp, are headed: ‘Rubricelle libri xxvii. bullarum sanctissimi domini nostri domini Pii divina providentia pape ii,’ and end with the word ‘Finis,’ below which the ‘rubricator’ has added: ‘Rubricellatus fuit iste liber per me Baptistam Zucheta clericum Novarien(sem) in Camera apostolica scriptorem de anno domini mcccclxiiiio . indictione xii. die vero iia . mensis Augusti pontificatus sanctissimi in Christo patris et domini domini nostri Pii divina providentia pape ii. anno vio .’ There are i-cccxii ff. of text.
