PRAYERS.
Message from H. C. to remind the Lords of the Impeachment against
the E. of Danby.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by the
Lord Cavendish and others; who was commanded, by the
Knights, Citizens, and Burgesses assembled in Parliament, to put their
Lordships in Mind of the Impeachment of High Treason, and other high Crimes,
Misdemeanors, and Offences, exhibited, in the Name of the Commons of
England, against Thomas Earl of
Danby; and to desire their Lordships, that he may be
forthwith sequestered from Parliament, and committed to safe Custody.
After a long Debate of this Business; it is ORDERED, That
this Debate is adjourned till To-morrow Morning.
Persons in Custody for the Plot, Recognizances of their Bail to be
discharged.
Upon Report made, by the Lord Viscount Fauconberg, from the Lords Committees for examining Matters
relating to the Discovery of the late horrid Conspiracy, "That their Lordships
judge it reasonable, that all those Persons who have become Bail, or entered
into Recognizances to His Majesty, at the Council Board, for the Appearance of
any Persons who have rendered themselves, and are now in Custody, be discharged
of their said Recognizances or Bonds:"
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in
Parliament assembled, That the said Persons are hereby appointed to attend the
Clerks of the Council, for the Discharge of their said Bonds or
Recognizances.
Smith to have the Reward, for discovering a Priest.
Upon Report made, by the Lord Viscount Fauconberg, from the Lords Committees for examining Matters
relating to the Discovery of the late horrid Conspiracy, "That Henry Smith, who hath discovered and apprehended a
Romish Priest, videlicet, Nayler,
alias Carpenter, ought to have the Reward promised by His
Majesty's late Royal Proclamation for that Purpose published:"
It is ORDERED, That the Lord Chancellor of England do move His Majesty in Council concerning this
Matter.
Bampfield versus Vaughan.
Whereas Hugh Vaughan was, by Order
of this House, dated the 16th of December last, required
to put in an Answer, in Writing, to the Petition of Warwick
Bampfeild Esquire, depending in this House against him, within One Week
then next following, peremptorily, or otherwise that the Petitioner should be
heard ex parte; which hath not been done, by reason of
the Prorogation of the Parliament soon after following:
It is this Day ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and
Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Hugh
Vaughan be, and is hereby, required peremptorily to put in his said
Answer, in Writing, within One Week next after Notice given him of this Order;
or else this House will proceed to hear the Petitioner ex
parte.
Capt.Spalding to be attached.
Upon Report made, from the Lords Committees for examining
Matters relating to the Discovery of the late horrid Conspiracy, "That Captain
Francis Spalding, Deputy Governor of Chepstow Castle, who was, by Order of this House, dated the
21th of November last, committed to the Prison of
The King's Bench, for Matters wherewith he stands
charged, hath since that Time been enlarged upon Bail; and, being upon Bail,
commands still at Chepstow Castle, as Deputy Governor,
and hath misbehaved himself, as hath appeared to the said Lords
Committees:"
It is thereupon ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and
Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Serjeant at Arms attending this
House, or his Deputy or Deputies, do forthwith attach the Body of the said
Francis Spalding, and bring him in safe Custody to the
Bar of this House; and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that
Behalf.
To Sir Geo. Charnock Knight,
Serjeant at Arms attending this House, his Deputy and Deputies, and to all His
Majesty's Ministers and Officers Civil and Military, to be aiding and assisting
in the Execution hereof.
King's Answer, concerning Bedloe.
The Lord Viscount Newport reported,
"That the Lords with the White Staves have attended His Majesty, with the
Address concerning the Payment of Five Hundred Pounds to Mr. Bedloe; and His Majesty is pleased to say, That He will take it
into His Care."
