L. Mohun's Bill.
Hodie 1 vice lecta est Billa, "An Act to enable
the Trustees of the Manors and Lands of Charles
Lord Mohun to fell Timber, and to make Leases,
for Payment of his and his Father's Debts, and to
raise a Portion for his Daughter."
Otes's Complaint of a Book.
The Earl of Clarendon reported, "That this Morning Mr. Oates made a Complaint to the Lords Committees for Examinations, of a Book lately printed,
pretending to be Examinations taken by Sir Edmund
Bury Godfrey, wherein Mr. Oates conceives himself
much injured, it being dispersed abroad."
Bp. of Ely's Complaint against Sydway.
The Lord Bishop of Ely complained to this House,
of an Information made this Morning before the
Lords Committees for Examinations, by one Mr. Sidway, which was very derogatory to himself and some
of the Lords the Bishops; and therefore praying,
"That the House would hear the Business, and do
them Justice upon the said Sidway:"
It is thereupon ORDERED, That this House will
take this Business out of the Hands of the Committee
for Examinations; and that the said Mr. Sidway shall
have Notice to attend this House on Monday Morning
next, at which Time this House will examine this
Business.
Upon this Occasion, the House made the following
Order:
Information concerning any Lord to be immediately laid before the House.
"It is this Day ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual
and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That all
Informations offered to the Lords Committees for
examining Matters relating to the Discovery of the
late horrid Conspiracy, wherein any Member of
this House shall be concerned, be immediately
brought into the House, by the said Lords Committees, at the next Sitting of this House; and that the
Witness, or Party informing, be likewise required to
attend the House at the same Time."
Sir Edward Turner and Gardiner versus Ly. Turner.
Whereas there is a Petition of Appeal of Sir Edward Turner Knight, and Anne Gardiner Widow, depending in this House, to which Dame Mary Turner
hath put in an Answer:
It is this Day ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual
and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House
will hear Counsel, at the Bar, on both Parts, upon the
said Petition and Answer, on Wednesday the 30th Day
of this Instant April, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon; whereof the Petitioners are to cause timely
Notice to be given to the said Dame Mary Turner for
that Purpose.
State of Ireland.
The House was put into a Committee, to consider
further of the Security of the Kingdom of Ireland.
The House being resumed;
The Earl of Bridgewater reported, "That the Committee are of Opinion, That Provision be made in
the Bill to be prepared relating to Ireland, for remedying the practising of Lawyers that are Papists;
and that no Person be Clerk of the Peace, or Under
Sheriff there, without taking the Oaths of Allegiance
and Supremacy, and making and subscribing the
Declaration.
"Also that it be added to the Address agreed to
the other Day, That His Majesty will be pleased to
give Order that an Account may be transmitted
hither of the Names of the Guardians, and the
Security entered into for the Education of Children
in Ireland in the Protestant Religion, with the
Names of the said Children; expressing respectively
which have been educated Protestants, and which
Papists.
"Also that His Majesty will be pleased to give Order to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, to put the
Laws there in Execution to the utmost against all
Jesuits, and such other Popish Priests as exercise
Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction after the Romish Manner in
Ireland."
Which Report being made and read, the House
agreed to.
L. Awdley, Leave to stay in Town.
The House being moved, "That James Lord Awdley,
One of the Peers of this Realm, may have Leave
to stay some Time in Town, to attend some Business
of Importance to him; and for that Purpose may
be permitted to come into His Majesty's Court at
Whitehall:"
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Lord Awdley
be, and is hereby, authorized to stay in the Cities of
London and Westm. or either of them, for effecting the
said Business, for the Space of Thirty Days from the
Date of this Order; and to come to Whitehall for that
Purpose, if His Majesty shall be pleased to give him
License so to do.
