This Day Sir John Sommers Knight, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England, sat first as Speaker in the House of Peers.

The Lord Keeper acquainted the House, "That Her Majesty had sent a Commission for the further proroguing of this Parliament."

Hereupon the Lords Commissioners, in their Robes, being seated on a Form placed between the Throne and the Woolsack; the Lord Keeper in the Middle; and the Lord Chamberlain, Earl of Bridgewater, and Earl of Macclesfeild, on his Right Hand; the Earl of Nottingham and the Earl of Bath on his Left Hand; commanded the Gentleman Usher the Black Rod to give the House of Commons Notice of the said Commission; and to signify to them, "That the Lords desire they would be present, to hear the said Commission read."

Who being come, with their Speaker; the Commission was read, as followeth;

Commission for proroguing the Parliament.

Vicesimo Die Martii, Anno Regni Nostri Secundo, inchoari et teneri ordinaverimus; a quo Die idem Parliamentum Nostrum usque ad et in Vicesimum Tertium Diem Maii tunc proxime sequen. continuatum fuerat; et abinde, per separales Prorogationes et Adjournationes, ad et in Secundum Diem instantis Maii prorogatum et adjournatum fuerat, apud Civitatem Nostram Westm. prædictam, ibidem tunc tenendum et prosequendum: Sciatis tamen, quod, certis urgentibus Causis et Considerationibus Nos specialiter moventibus, idem Parliamentum Nostrum prorogandum duximus. De Fidelitate igitur, Prudentia, Circumspectionibus vestris plurimum confidentes, de Avisamento et Assensu Concilii Nostri, assignavimus vos Commissionarios Nostros; dantes vobis, et aliquibus Tribus vel pluribus vestrum, Tenore Præsentium, plenam Potestatem et Auctoritatem, hoc instante Die Martis, præsens Parliamentum Nostrum, Nomine Nostro, ad et in Decimum Nonum Diem Septembris jam proxime futur. usque prædictam Civitatem Nostram Westm. prorogandum et continuandum, ibidemque tunc tenendum et prosequendum; et ideo vobis mandamus, quod circa Præmissa diligenter intendatis, ac ea in Forma prædicta effectualiter expleatis. Damus autem universis et singulis Archiepiscopis, Ducibus, Marchionibus, Comitibus, Vicecomitibus, Episcopis, Baronibus, Militibus, Civibus, et Burgensibus, ac omnibus aliis quorum interest ad dictum Parliamentum Nostrum conventuris, Tenore Præsentium, firmiter in Mandatis, quod vobis in Præmissis faciendis, agendis, et exequendis, pareant, obediant, et intendant, prout decet. In cujus Rei Testimonium, has Literas Nostras fieri fecimus Patentes.

"Testibus Nobis ipsis, apud Westm. Secundo Die Maii, Anno Regni Nostri Quinto.

Which being ended; the Lord Keeper said,

Parliament prorogued.

"My Lords and Gentlemen,

"By Virtue of Their Majesties Commission now read, and to us directed, we do, in Their Majesties Name, prorogue this Parliament to Tuesday the Nineteenth Day of September next: And this Parliament is prorogued accordingly to Tuesday the Nineteenth Day of September next."
