Mercer versus Mercer.
Whereas there is a Petition and Appeal of Robert
Mercer depending in this House, to which Alice and
Ellen Mercer, Infants, have by their Guardian Richard
Blackmore put in their Answers in Writing:
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear
Counsel on both Parts, at the Bar, upon the said Petition and Appeal, and the Answer thereunto, on Saturday the Fourteenth Day of February next, at Ten of
the Clock in the Forenoon; whereof the Petitioner is
to cause timely Notice to be given to the said Defendants, or their Agent here in Town.
Sir John Read to have the Protection of this House while his Cause depends.
Whereas Sir John Read Baronet is, by Order of
this House, required to appear at the Bar on Friday
next, being the Three and Twentieth Day of this Instant January, by reason of the Petition of Dame Alissimon Read his Wife, now depending in this House:
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Sir John
Read shall have, and hereby hath, the Protection of
this House, for his safe coming to attend, and returning from his Attendance, on this House; whereof all
Persons whatsoever, who are or may be any Way concerned therein, are to take Notice, and give Obedience hereunto, as they will answer the contrary to
this House at their Perils.
The King's Speech to be considered.
Upon reading the gracious Speech made by His
Majesty in this House on the 7th of January Instant,
as also the Lord Keeper's Speech made pursuant thereunto:
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will
take the whole Matter of His Majesty's said Speech
into their Consideration on Saturday the 24th Instant,
the First Business.

Lords take the Oath of Allegiance.
This Day, after the Adjournment of the House, the
Lords whose Names are underwritten, did in the Presence
of the Lord Keeper and a competent Number of the
Lords of His Majesty's Privy Council, kneeling at the
Woolsack whereon the Lord Keeper sits, take the Oath
of Allegiance, provided and mentioned in the Parliament A° 3 Regis Jacobi.
The Gentleman Usher held the Bible, and the Clerk
of the Crown read the Oath.
