Address to the King, for the Grounds of L. Griffin's Commitment.
His Majesty having communicated to this House the
Commitment of the Lord Griffin:
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal
in Parliament assembled, That an humble Address be
made to His Majesty, "That He would be pleased to
communicate to the House the Grounds and Reasons
His Majesty had for the Commitment of the said Lord
Griffin;" and that the Earl of Shrewsbury do present
the said Address to His Majesty.
Derham and Edwards versus Duvall.
Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of Sir Richard
Derham Knight and Baronet, and Sir John Edwards
Knight, from several Decrees made in the High Court
of Chancery, in a Cause wherein John Duvall Esquire
and Elizabeth his Wife (commonly called Viscountess
Purbecke) and others are Complainants, against the said
Sir Rich'd Derham and Sir John Edwards and others
Defendants; and praying, that the said John Duvall
and the Lady Purbeck his Wife, and their Trustees,
Complainants in Chancery in the said Cause, may be
ordered to answer the said Appeal, and that all Proceedings of Mr. Duvall and his Wife in Chancery may
be stayed:
It is thereupon ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual
and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said
John Duvall and the Lady Purbecke his Wife and others
may have a Copy or Copies of the said Appeal; and
be, and are hereby, required to put in their Answer or
respective Answers thereunto in Writing, on Thursday
the 21th Day of this Instant November, at Ten of the
Clock in the Forenoon; and that, in the mean Time, all
Proceedings of the said Mr. Duvall and his Wife in
the Court of Chancery shall be, and are hereby, stayed; whereof the said Sir Richard Derham and Sir John
Edwards, and the others Petitioners, are to cause timely
Notice to be given to the said John Duvall and Lady
Purbecke his Wife and others Defendants, to the End
they answer accordingly.
Peers, whether they shall be heard, on their Petition, concerning their Commitment.
This House being moved, "That, upon the Commitment of any Peer of this Realm, the Peer, upon
his Petition to this House, shall be for the future
heard, as to the Merits of his Commitment:"
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Clerk of the Parliaments do bring into this House, on Saturday next,
the Journal of this House wherein the Lord Delamer's
Case is; at which Time the House will take the said
Motion into Consideration.
Irregularities in the Courts in Westminster Hall to be redressed.
ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in
Parliament assembled, That it be, and is hereby, referred to the Lords of the Committee for Privileges, to
enquire into what Irregularities there are in the Courts
in Westm. Hall, and what is fit to be regulated and redressed; whose Lordships, or any Five of them, are
to meet on Saturday next, at Four of the Clock in the
Afternoon, in the Prince's Lodgings near the House of
Peers; and are to report to the House; and may adjourn
as they please.
Petit to attend the Committee for that Purpose.
ORDERED, That William Petyt Esquire do, on Saturday next, at Four of the Clock in the Afternoon, in
the Prince's Lodgings near the House of Peers, attend
the Lords Committees, who are appointed to enquire
into what Irregularities are in the Courts in Westminster
Hall, and what is fit to be redressed.
