OTHER ESTATES.

Since the manor and parish of Cowley were co-extensive, and since the lord of the manor's estate probably covered a good deal of them both, there were no other freeholds of any size in the parish except for the rector's glebe. (fn. 12) In 1485 an estate called Ely's was said to be in Cowley parish though it was held of the lord of Colham manor. It is not referred to later. (fn. 13) There was later, however, a good deal of land held as freehold of the manor, rather than as copyhold. (fn. 14)
