Prayers.

Order amended.

ORDERED, That, to the Order of the 2d of March 1659, these Words be added; viz. "Generals and General, jointly and severally."

Sheriffs.

Ordered, That Major John Blackmore be, and is hereby, discharged from being Sheriff of the County of Devon: And that the Gentlemen who serve for the said County, do presently bring in Three Names, that, out of the same, the Parliament may approve of one to be Sheriff of the said County.

Ordered, That the Sheriff for the County of Sussex be discharged; and that the new Sheriff be, and is hereby, approved of; and that he do forthwith sue out his Patent.

Resolved, That Edmond Waring Sheriff of Shropshire, be discharged of being Sheriff: And that the Gentlemen who serve for the said County, do present Three Names To-morrow Morning, out of which the Parliament may nominate one to be Sheriff of the said County.

Resolved, That Mr. Crowther be discharged from being Sheriff of Hampshire: And that the Members of Parliament who serve for the said County, do present the Names of Three Persons To-morrow Morning, out of which the Parliament may nominate and approve one to be Sheriff.

Ordered, That the Members of Parliament do bring in the Names of Sheriffs To-morrow Morning, for the Approbation of the Parliament, in such Places where they desire the old Sheriffs should be discharged.

Religion.

Colonel Harley reports from the Committee for Religion, An Act declaring the Publick Confession of Faith of the Church of England: Which was this Day read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That this Act be now read the Third time.

The said Act was now read the Third time, accordingly; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be printed and published.

Ordered, That it be referred to Dr. Reynolds, Mr. Calamy, and Mr. Manton, to examine the same at the Press; and also to examine the Scriptures for Proof of every Article, and insert the same in the Margin of the Book.

Popish Recusants.

Ordered, That a Proclamation do issue for putting all, the Laws and Statutes against Popish Recusants, Priests, and Jesuits, in speedy and effectual Execution: And that Mr. Attorney-General, and Mr. Pryn, do bring in the Proclamation, accordingly.

Ordered, That the Sum of Twenty Pounds shall be given by every Sheriff to such Person or Persons as shall discover any Popish Priest, or Jesuit, upon the Conviction of every such Priest or Jesuit: And that the same shall be allowed to the respective Sheriffs, upon their respective Accounts: And that the said Reward be inserted into the Proclamation.

League and Covenant.

Ordered, That the Solemn League and Covenant be printed and published, and setup, and forthwith read in every Church; and also read once every Year, according to former Order of Parliament: And that the said Solemn League and Covenant be also set up in this House.

Address from Lyme.

The humble Address of the Mayor, Burgesses, and other Inhabitants of the Town of Lyme, in the County of Dorset, was read.

Resolved, That the Thanks of this House be given unto the said Petitioners, the Mayor, Burgesses, and other Inhabitants of the Town of Lyme: And that Mr. Moore do give them the Thanks of the Parliament, accordingly.

Militia Commissioners.

Colonel Birch reports, The Names of Commissioners for the Militia for the County of Salop: Which were read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

Justices of Peace.

Ordered, That the Justices of Peace who were formerly of the Quorum, and such other Justices as the Commissioners for the Great Seal shall think fit to nominate, any Five, Four, or Three of them, be of the Quorum: And the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal are to issue forth Commissions, accordingly.

Piedmont Protestants.

Mr. John Trevor reports from the Council of State, touching the Monies for the Contribution for the poor Protestants of Piedmont, as followeth; viz.

That of the Monies yet remaining of the Contribution for the poor Protestants of Piedmont, there was, the 22th of September 1657, lent out by the Treasurers for the said Monies, Four thousand Nine hundred and Fifty Pounds, upon Bond, to Alderman Teame, deceased, and Mr. Martin Noell, at a low Interest: Which Money, though oftentimes demanded, is not yet satisfied, notwithstanding the pressing Necessities of the said poor Protestants doth require the same: And whereas it is informed, That the said Bond being made to the Use of the late Protector Oliver, and in his Name; the said Bond, by reason of some Clause passed in a late Act of Parliament, cannot be sued at Law; whereby the Money due thereupon is in great Danger of being lost: Whereupon, It is Ordered by the Council, That it be humbly reported to the Parliament, as their Opinion, That the Parliament be pleased to pass an Act for warranting a Suit to be commenced upon the said Bond, in the Name of the Keepers of the Liberties of England.

Ordered, That an Act be brought in to enable the suing of the Bond for Payment of Four thousand Nine hundred and Fifty Pounds of the Contribution-Money of the poor Protestants of Piedmont, entered into by Alderman Teames, deceased, and Mr. Martin Noell, at Law: And also the suing of other Bonds at Law, which were taken in the late Protector's Name; and to discharge the said Bonds, upon Payment of the Monies: And that the Lord Chief Baron Wild, and Mr. Lechmere, do bring in the Act.
