A LETTER from Mr. Walter Strickland, from the
Hagh, March the 8/18, 1649, was this Day read.
A Letter from Peter Thelwall, from Bruxells, 10/20; of
March, 1648/9;, was this Day read.
A Letter from the Governors, Bayleiffes, and * of
Gernsey, of the Twenty-sixth of February 1648, was
this Day read.
Ordered, That the said several Letters, and the Petition of the said Peter Thelwall, Agent for the Parliament
in Flanders, be referred to the Council of State; to take
the same into Consideration; and take care for the Settlement of the Agencies beyond the Seas, and for Payment
of their Salaries.
Declaration of Parliament.
A Declaration for Satisfaction of the Kingdom, touching the late Proceedings of the Parliament, was this Day
read; and, upon the Question, re-committed to Mr. Whitlock, Mr. Challenor, Mr. Gurdon, Sir Henry Vane junior,
Mr. Ashe, Mr. Martyn; or any Two of them; Who are
forthwith to make Report thereof to the House.
Judges.
Mr. Whitlock reports, That Mr. Justice Phesant is taken
sick in the Circuit; which is not yet ended.
Ordered, That Mr. Serjeant Keeble, one of the Lords
Commissioners of the Great Seal, be desired to go down
to perfect the Residue of the Circuit: And that . . be
joined in Commission with Mr. Justice Phesant for that
Purpose: And the said Lords Commissioners are to pass a
Commission, under the Great Seal, accordingly.
Abolishing Monarchy.
Mr. Lisle reports Amendments to the Act for taking
away . . . Kingly Office in the Nation: Which were twice
read; and, with some Omissions and Amendments, were,
upon the Question, assented unto: And the said Act,
upon the Question, ordered to be ingrossed.
Representatives.
Resolved, &c. That, after this House hath settled the
Business touching the Navy, Monies, and Free Quarter;
this House will take into Consideration the Matter touching the equal Distribution of the next Representatives.
Prisoners of War.
Ordered, That there be Stay made of all such Seamen
and Mariners as have been taken Prisoners for revolting from the Parliament, or otherwise, and of all other
Prisoners, from being transported beyond Sea, without
Leave of the House.
Licensing Books.
Ordered, That the Power of Mr. Cranford, for licensing
any Books to be printed, be hereby revoked.
Printing King's Book.
Ordered, That the Serjeant at Arms be appointed to
make Stay of, and seize at the Press, all those Books now
printing or printed under the Name of the Book of the
late King.
Prisoners of War.
Ordered, That no Master or Commander of any Ship
shall be permitted to pass or transport any Seamen or Mariners, until he shall deliver, unto the Captain of the Fort
of West Tilbury, a Note of their Names; and shall give
Security, that they shall not act against the Parliament.
Wales Circuit.
Ordered, That John Norbury Esquire shall go as a Judge
the Circuit in Wales with Mr. Eltonhead: And that he hold
the same, quamdiu se bene gesserit: And the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal are hereby authorized and
required to pass a Commission, under the Great Seal,
accordingly.
Kent Circuit.
An Act for a Commission to be granted to Mr. Serjeant Keeble, to be a Justice of Assize with Mr. Justice
Phesant in the Kentyshe Circuit, was this Day read; and,
upon the Question, passed.
Navy Appointments.
Colonel Wauton reports from the Council of State,
the Names of Captains for Ships at Sea.
Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of Captain
Vixon, Captain Penrose, and Captain Mildmay, to be
Captains of Ships to go forth to Sea in the next Summer's Expedition.
