Stamford's, &c. Petition.

A LETTER from the General, from Queen-street, dated 14 Aprilis 1649, was this Day read: Wherein was inclosed the humble Petition of Christopher Stamford, John Everard, Thomas Cole, and John Ryme; with a Certificate, subscribed by divers Gentlemen of Essex: Which were also read.

Ordered, That it be referred to Sir William Masham, Mr. Gourdon, Mr. Masham, Mr. Holland, Sir William Strickland, Sir Henry Myldmay, Mr. Edwards, to consider how the Petitioners, and also Mr. Jeffereys, and John Morris, may have Satisfaction for their Losses, out of the Estate of Theobald Butler, a Rebel in Ireland, lying in the said County of Essex; and present to the House an Act for that Purpose, by Sale or otherwise: And, if the Estate of the said Butler shall fail, then to consider of some other Estate out of which Satisfaction may be given to the said Parties; and present an Act to that Purpose.

Alexander's Petition.

The humble Petition of Michael Ben Alexander was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal, to take Consideration of this Petition; and consider what is fit to be done therein; and to do as they shall find Cause, for the Relief of the Petitioner.

Ambleside Fairs and Markets.

The humble Petition of the Inhabitants of Ambleside, and the rest of the Inhabitants within the Barony of Kendall in the County of Westmorland, was this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That there be a Grant of Fairs and Markets to be held in the Town of Ambleside in the County of Westmorland.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England, and Mr. Attorney General, to take Consideration of the Petition, and issue a Writ of Ad quod dammum: And, upon Return thereof, and Examination of the Conveniences and Inconveniences thereby, that the Lords Commissioners do grant a Warrant to the Attorney General, to prepare a Grant or Patent, according to Law, for Fairs and Markets to be held in the said Town of Ambleside, at such Times as they shall find most convenient for the Benefit of the People, accordingly.

Asaph Fairs and Markets.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England, and Mr. Attorney General, to take into Consideration the Granting of Fairs and Markets to be held in the Town of Asaph in the County of Flint; and issue a Writ of Ad quod damnum: And, upon Return thereof, and Examination of the Conveniences and Inconveniences thereby, that the Lords Commissioners do grant a Warrant to the Attorney General, to prepare a Grant or Patent, according to Law, for Fairs and Markets to be held in the said Town of Asaph, at such Times as they shall find most convenient for the Benefit of the People, accordingly.

Warner's Petition.

The humble Petition of George Warner, of Wolston in the County of Warwick, Esquire, was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Goldsmiths Hall, upon the Debate of the House, That, notwithstanding the Lapse of Time, George Warner, Esquire have Allowance made to him in his Composition, according to the Intention of the House, in their former Order of the Eighth of October 1647.

Nicholls', &c. Petition.

The Petition of Richard Nicholls, Nicolas Smith, Nicolas Hodgkins, John Powell, Joan Humfries Widow, and Alice Boulton Widow, was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for Obstructions in the Sale of Dean and Chapters Lands, to consider of the said Petition; and whether, in this Particular, and also in the general, the Thing desired may be an Advantage or Disadvantage to the Commonwealth in the Sale of the Lands of Deans and Chapters; and report their Opinion to the House.

Deans and Chapters Lands.

Mr. Lechmere reports Amendments to the Act for removing Obstructions in Sale of Deans and Chapters Lands: Which were twice read.

And Resolved, &c. That the Time, in the last Amendment, be Ten Days.

And the said Amendments, being so amended, together with the First Amendment, being put to the Question, were agreed.

And, upon the Question, the Bill, with those Amendments agreed, was ordered to be ingrossed.

General Cromwell.

Ordered, That the Commission for Lieutenant General Cromwell to go with Forces into Ireland be brought in, and read To-morrow Morning.

Tattershall Castle.

Sir Wm. Armyn reports from the Council of State, That some Satisfaction may be made to the Earl of Lincoln for the Demolishing of Tattershall Castle, as was made to the Earl of Rutland for Demolishing of Belvoir Castle.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take into Consideration what is fit to be done touching the Demolishing of Tattershall Castle; and, if they think fit, that any Consideration should be given to the Earl of Lincoln in respect thereof, to report it to the House.

Goudridge Castle.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State likewise, to consider of the former Order made for Demolishing of Goudridge Castle; and, if they think fit, that any Satisfaction shall be given to the Countess of Kent in respect thereof, to report it to the House.

Invalid Soldiers.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth declare, That it was the Intention of this House, and this House doth so order, That the weekly Payment of Two hundred and Sixty Pounds to the sick and maimed Soldiers, out of the Excise, and Goldsmiths Hall, should begin to be paid on the Thirteenth of June instant; and so be continued from thenceforth.

Bishops Lands.

Mr. Corbett reports an Act for removing Obstructions in the Sale of Bishops Lands, and of Deans and Chapters Lands.

Which was this Day read the First and Second time.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Hussey, Mr. Trenchard, Sir Wm. Strickland, Colonel Harrison, Colonel Purefoy, be added to the Committee named in the said Act.

And the Act, so put to the Question, passed.

Money taken in Dutch Ship.

Ordered, That Two hundred Pounds of the Fourteen hundred Eighty Pounds Twelve Shillings and Six-pence, seized in the Dutch Man of War at Gravesend, be retained in the Hands of Colonel Temple, Commander of West Tilbury Fort, upon Account, towards the fortifying and repairing the Block-houses there: And that the Residue of such Part of the said Monies as shall accrue to the State, be forthwith paid in to the Exchequer: And that the Committee of the Revenue do likewise take care for the Payment thereof to the said Colonel Temple, upon Account, towards the Charges of the said Fortifications: And that it be referred to the Barons of the Exchequer, to give Recompence to the Persons who seized the said Fourteen hundred Eighty Pounds Twelve Shillings and Six-pence, according to the usual Course: And that no Proceedings be had in the Exchequer against the Searchers, touching that Two hundred Pounds.

Members under Restraint.

Ordered, That the Committee appointed to take Examinations concerning Major General Browne, and other Members, under Restraint, be revived: And that they meet To-morrow at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber: And Colonel Jones is added to that Committee.

And the Care of this Business is committed to Colonel Jones and Mr. Garland.

Dutch Officers.

Ordered, That the Business of the Dutch Officers be taken into Consideration on Saturday next.

Harpenden Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of the Inhabitants of Harpenden in Hartfordshire be read on Monday next.
