Prayers.
Poll Bill.
SIR Wm. Wheeler reports an additional Clause, to be
inserted into the Bill for Poll Money, for appointing
Treasurers to receive the Poll Money, and appointing
the Commissioners, for the several Counties therein
named, to put the same in Execution, instead of the
Clause formerly in the Bill, wherein the Commissioners,
in the Act for an Assessment, were appointed Commissioners in this Act; and another Clause, for employing
and disposing the Money raised thereby, for paying the
Arrears, and disbanding the Forces, &c.; and for an
Account to be made thereof to the Parliament; and some
other Amendments to the said Bill: Which were twice
read; and after the Addition of these Words to the said
last Clause, viz. "or to such Person or Persons as shall
by this, or any other succeeding Parliament, be thereunto appointed;" the same were, upon the Question,
agreed unto.
Names of Commissioners, to be inserted into this Bill,
for the County of Cardigan, were read; and, upon the
Question, agreed unto.
Ordered, That John Elliot Esquire, the elder, be added
a Commissioner in this Bill for the County of Pembrooke.
A Clause was tendered for the better Discovery of
Popish Recusants, by their refusing to take the Oath of
Supremacy, upon Tender thereof by the Commissioners;
which was twice read, and laid aside.
Resolved, That the Number of Commissioners, to take
the Oath of Supremacy, shall be Two.
An Amendment, in the Body of the Bill, Folio 10,
was this Day made at the Table; viz.
"And be it further enacted, by the Authority aforesaid, that every Person, who is a Popish Recusant, and
every other Person, being above the Age of Eighteen
Years, of any of the several Degrees, Ranks, and Qualities, before in this Act set forth and mentioned, who
shall refuse to take the Oaths of Supremacy and Allegiance, being tendered to him or her by any Two or
more of the Commissioners named in this Act; which
Oaths the said Commissioners, or any Two, or more
of them, have hereby Power to tender and administer
to any such Popish Recusant, or any other Person,
whom they shall have Cause to suspect to be disaffected
to the Protestant Religion, or to his Majesty's Kingly
Authority; shall pay double the Rate and Proportion
imposed upon the same Degree, Rank, or Quality, of
which he or she, the said Popish Recusant, or other Person, is, or otherwise imposed on him or her, by virtue
of this Act."
Ordered, That this Bill be ingrossed.
Confirming Sales.
Ordered, That the Bill for Confirmation of Sales be
read To-morrow Morning, the first Business.
Army Commissioners.
Ordered, That the Bill concerning the Committee for
the Army, and Treasurers at War, be read To-morrow
Morning, next after the Bill for Confirmation of Sales.
Tonage and Poundage.
Ordered, That the House be presently resolved into a
Grand Committee of the whole House, to take the Bill
of Tonage and Poundage into Consideration; and that
Mr. Speaker do leave the Chair.
Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Charlton took the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.
Mr. Charlton reports from the said Grand Committee,
that the said Committee desire the Leave of this House
to sit again on Thursday next.
Resolved, That this House be resolved into a Grand
Committee, upon the Bill of Tonage and Poundage, on
Thursday Morning next.
