Prayers.
Supply Bill; foreign Commodities.
A CLAUSE for recompensing his Majesty for the
Duty of Brandy imported, taken away by the Prohibition thereof in this Bill, was read the Second time.
The Clause was read, by Paragraphs, the Third time:
And the several Paragraphs, with some Amendments
agreed on the Question, and made at the Table, were,
upon the Question, agreed.
A Clause was tendered, for the better Discovery of
Brandy imported; and thrice read.
The Question being put, To agree with the First Paragraph, or Part of the Clause for a Discovery, by the
Merchant Importer, to whom he hath sold his Brandy;
It was resolved in the Affirmative.
The next Part of the Clause was read; and, on the
Question, agreed.
The last Paragraph was read; and, upon the Question,
agreed.
The Clause, for Exemption of private Persons distilling for their own Use, was twice read, and agreed.
Resolved, &c. That the said Clauses be added to the
former Clauses concerning Brandy.
Another Proviso, for an Appeal, was twice read; and,
with the Amendments made at the Table, upon the
Question, agreed.
A Proviso was tendered, against importing Brandy by
Licence.
The Question being put, That the Proviso be read;
It passed in the Negative.
The ingrossed Clauses, concerning Brandy, were read
the Third time.
A Proviso for the better taking and expediting the
Accounts between the Merchants and Farmers of the
Customs and his Majesty, was read twice: But, being
imperfect, was withdrawn.
Resolved, &c. That the Bill do pass: And that the Title
be, An Act for an additional Imposition on several foreign
Commodities; and for the Encouragement of several
Commodities and Manufactures of this Kingdom: And
Sir Robert Howard is to carry up the Bill to the Lords.
Supply Bill; Duty on Brandy.
Amendments coming from the Lords to the Bill of
Brandy: Which being for laying an Imposition on the
People, in Breach of the Privilege of this House, where
all Impositions on the People ought to begin; therefore
the House did think fit to lay the said Bill and Amendments aside.
Tobacco.
Ordered, That the Report of the Bill, to prevent the
planting Tobacco in England, be heard on Tuesday, the
first Business.
Lindsey Level.
Ordered, That the Cause concerning Lindsey Level, be
heard on Monday Morning, according to the former Order.
Privilege.
Ordered, That the Report concerning the Mayor of
Bristoll, be heard on Tuesday Morning.
Conventicles.
Ordered, That the Report of the Bill of Conventicles,
be heard on Wednesday Morning.
Cornwall Assizes.
The Question being put, That a further Day be given,
for hearing the Matter upon the Bill for settling the
Assizes for Cornwall, before the Committee;
