Croydon Vicarage.
A PETITION of the Inhabitants of the Town and
Parish of Croyden in the County of Surrey, was
tendered, and read.
Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill for
settling a Maintenance for the Vicar of the Town and
Parish of Croydon, in Lieu of his Tythes: And that Sir
Adam Browne have Leave to bring it in.
Insolvent Debtors.
A Bill for Relief of poor Prisoners for Debt, was read
the Second time: And several Debates arising thereupon,
relating to Matters not contained in this Bill; viz. To
provide to set poor Prisoners on Work; and to prevent
Frauds in such as are able to pay, in making over their
Estates in Trust, to defraud Creditors; and other Matters;
Resolved, &c. That it be referred to Sir John Birkenhead, Sir John Pettus, Sir Edw. Deering, Sir John
Coriton, Sir John Otway, Sir John Heath, Sir William
Doyley, Sir Robert Barneham, Sir Charles Harbord, Mr.

Chalmondley, Sir Anth. Irby, Sir Rich. Temple, Sir John
Knight, Sir John Bennet, Sir Philip Warwick, Sir John
Covert, Mr. Sacheverell, Mr. Maynard, Sir John Holland,
Mr. Morrice, and all that serve for London, Middlesex,
and Surrey; and all the Gentlemen of the Long
Robe: And they are to meet on Monday next, at Two
of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Speaker's
Chamber: And to send for Persons, Papers, and Records: And to consider the several Debates of the House;
and to bring in a Bill or Bills thereupon: And it is recommended to Sir Thomas Clergis and Sir Rich. Temple,
to take care thereof.
Woodstock Writ.
Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue out his Warrant
to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a Writ for
electing a new Member to serve for the Borough of
Woodstock in the County of Oxon, in the room of Sir
Will. Fleetewood, deceased.
Committee for Journals.
Ordered, That Mr. Gray and Mr. Papillon be added
to the Committee appointed to inspect the Journals.
London Paving.
Sir Thomas Clerges reports, that the Committee appointed to prepare and bring in a Bill for the better
Paving and Cleansing the Streets of the City of London,
that the Committee had agreed ... a Bill to be presented
to the House.
Resolved, &c. That the Bill concerning the City of
London be tendered to be read on Wednesday Morning,
Ten of the Clock.
Illegal Imprisonment.
The ingrossed Bill to prevent the illegal Imprisonment
of the Subject, was read; and the last Provisoe in the
Bill, upon the Question, ordered to be omitted:
Which being cut off from the Bill;
Resolved, &c. That the Bill do pass: And that the
Title be, An Act to prevent the illegal Imprisonment of
the Subject: And Sir Thomas Lee is to carry up the Bill
to the Lords for their Concurrence.
Grievances.
The House then resolved into a Committee of the
whole House, to proceed in the Consideration of the
Grievances of the Nation.
Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Sir Charles Harbord took the Chair of the Committee.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.
Sir Charles Harbord reports from the Committee of
the whole House, a Vote and Resolve of the Committee,
to be presented to the House: Which was delivered in
at the Clerk's Table; and is as followeth; viz.
That the Continuing of any Standing Forces in this Nation, other than the Militia, is a great Grievance
and Vexation to the People: And that it is the humble
Petition of this House to his Majesty, that he will immediately cause to be disbanded that Part of them, that
were raised since the First of January 1663.
Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the
Committee, that the continuing of any Standing Forces
in this Nation, other than the Militia, is a great Grievance
and Vexation to the People: And that it is the humble
Petition of this House to his Majesty, that he will immediately cause to be disbanded that Part of them, that
were raised since the First of January 1663.
Resolved, &c. That such Members of this House, as
are of his Majesty's Privy Council, do attend his Majesty, to know his Pleasure, when he will be pleased to
admit this House into his Royal Presence.
Answer to Vote respecting Duke of Buckingham.
Mr. Speaker reports, That, in Obedience to the Commands of the House, he had attended his Majesty with
the Vote relating to the Duke of Buckingham: And that
his Majesty had returned this Answer;
That He would take it into His Consideration.
Committees.
Ordered, That all Committees, that were to sit this
Afternoon, be adjourned till Monday, Two of the Clock
in the Afternoon, to sit in the Places formerly appointed.
Grievances.
Ordered, That this House will again resolve into a
Committee of the whole House, on Wednesday next, Ten
of the Clock, to proceed in the Consideration of the
Grievances of this Nation.
And then the House adjourned till Monday
