Royal Assent to Bills.
A MESSAGE from the King, by Sir Edward
Carteret, Usher of the Black Rod;
Mr. Speaker,
The King commands this honourable House to attend
Him, immediately, in the House of Lords.
And accordingly Mr. Speaker, with the House, went
up to attend his Majesty.
The House being returned;
Mr. Speaker reports, That he had attended his Majesty in the House of Lords: Where his Majesty was
pleased to give his Royal Assent to the Bill for the more
effectual Preserving of the King's Person and Government, by disabling Papists from sitting in either House
of Parliament: And that his Majesty was pleased to
make a Speech to both Houses of Parliament; the
Effect whereof Mr. Speaker declared to the House.
Members take Oaths.
Resolved, That the House will now proceed to the
Taking of the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy, and
making and subscribing the Declaration, according to
the Direction of the Act for the more effectual Preserving of the King's Person and Government, by disabling
Papists from sitting in either House of Parliament.
Mr. Speaker having in his Chair taken the said Oaths,
and made and subscribed the said Declaration;
Several of the Members of the House did likewise take
the said Oaths, and make and subscribe the said Declaration, according to the Direction of the said Act.
And then the House adjourned till To-morrow
