THE Lord Keeper delivered a Message unto the
Lords, from the King, in hæc verba: videlicet,
Message from the King, concerning the Petition of Right.
"His Majesty hath commanded me to let you know,
that He discerns that all His Business depends upon
the Resolution of this House touching the Petition.
His Affairs are great and pressing, and Himself is very
speedily to go to Portesmouth; and it is of much Necessity, that, before His going, He see his Business in
Forwardness. Therefore His Majesty expects that
you grow to a Resolution this Day, whether you
will join with the House of Commons in the Petition
or not."
Message to the Commons, to continue sitting.
The Lords, taking this Message into their Consideration, after long Debate, their Lordships sent a Message
to the House of Commons, to sit a convenient Time,
for that it may be the Lords shall have Occasion to send
unto them; if not, yet they shall hear from their Lordships.
The said Message was sent by Mr. Justice Dodderidge
and Mr. Justice Crooke.

The Commons will sit a convenient Time.
Then their Lordships referred this Business unto their
former Committee.
The House being adjourned ad Libitum, the said
Committee withdrew to consider thereof.
Being returned, and the House resumed, another
Message was sent to the Commons, by Mr. Serjeant
Crewe and Mr. Serjeant Barklett:
Message to the H. C. for Conference touching the Petition of Right.
That the Lords desire a present and a free Conference, in the Painted Chamber, about the great Business.
Answered:
Answer.
They will attend accordingly.
The House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the
Lords went to the Conference.
Conference reported.
The Lords being returned, and the House resumed;
the Lord Keeper reported what he had delivered from
this House, and desired Expedition, and that the Commons would sit this Afternoon.
Unto which the Commons answered, That they
would faithfully report all to their House, and send
their Lordships Word whether they could with Conveniency sit this Afternoon or not.

and others:
Message from the Commons, that they can't sit P. M.
That the Commons cannot with any Conveniency sit
this Afternoon, the Matter is of that Weight; but they
will sit To-morrow very early, and send their Lordships
an Answer.

Agreed, The Duke of Buckingham to return a dutiful Answer from this House unto His Majesty's Message,
to this Effect: videlicet,
"That the Lords entered presently into Consideration thereof, and required a Conference with the
Commons, and determined to have sat this Afternoon
also; but the Commons answered, That they could
not with Conveniency sit till To-morrow Morning."
