ST. BRIDE'S.
MS. p. 337.
According to the King's Majesties' Order of the first of April last, 1638,
that every Parish should bring in the valuation of their several Benefices,
as they are now paid, together with the value of the houses as they are now
paid, We, the Vicar, Common Councell and Churchwardens of the parish
of St. Brides, having duly considered thereof, do humbly certify
1. That the parish church of St. Brides is an impropriation belonging to
the Dean and Chapter of Westminster.
2. That we have a lease thereof lately obtained from the Dean and
Chapter which upon our former lease was then in being ten years, the which
we renewed for 21 years and paid for the same (besides all other charges)
two hundred and forty pounds £240
3. That for tithes we received of all the houses in our parish with much
labour and difficulty in the gathering per ann. one hundred and threescore
pounds £160.
4. That we pay, besides our fine, Rent to the Dean and Chapter per
Anm. (and besides some other fees) forty pounds £40.
5. That we pay to Mr. Palmer our Vicar for Preaching per ann. fifty
pounds £50.
6. Item he hath also of the said Dean and Chapter per ann. paid him
sixteen pounds £16. That he hath also for Christenings, Marriages, Burials,
Funeral Sermons and other duties to him belonging [no amount.]
All which and much more to the value of Eight hundred pounds per ann.
goeth to the maintenance of our miserable poor which are betwixt seven
and eight hundred families with Nursing of poor children and Orphans left
upon our charge.

Allowed from the Governors of the Hospital, now £20 per ann., but I find
that there hath in former times been allowed to some £40 per ann.
Item allowed by them a house not certain, but for how long time and what
one, they hold to be at their pleasure.
Item. Glebe There was left by will a £100 by Alderman Heylin about
5 years ago in the hands of the Governors to buy land or houses for the good
and use of the minister which is not yet done, and allowed for the use of the
monies £6 13s. 4d. per ann.
