Manor of Beaminster (Dorset) part of pre-Conquest episcopal estates of
Sherborne (see AS Chs. Sherborne pp. xxxviii-xxxix, lvii, lviii, 47; DB I 77b).
One of 'villas preter militum terras' given to cans. by bp. Osmund in 1091
(carta). Conf. by pope 26 Nov. 1146 (PUE II no. 53 p. 209).
Two prebs. prob. in existence by c. 1150 (Psalter list). In 1220s called
'Beymenistr' Valentin' and 'Beymenistr' Rogeri' (C. 462, pd. Sar. Chs. p. 207;
cf. RSO II 72; cf. also C. 511, of c. 1284). Called Prima and Secunda c. 1270
(C. 461) and 1284 (app. 2). Both prebs. called 'Beyminister' without
distinction 1291 (Taxatio p. 181b).
Both dcn.-prebs.; decani side; terms of residence c. 1270: Prima Jan.-Mar.,
and Secunda Oct.-Dec.

his el. as bp. of Bath 26 Dec. 1191 (list 5); preb. Heytesbury in 1180s (list
35).]

73).
