Church of Carhampton gr. by Simon Buzun to priory of Bath, conf. by bp.
Reginald 23 June 1174 × c. 1188 (EEA X no. 71). Churches of Carhampton gr. as
preb. by Simon Buzun 1175 × 89, saving his right of presentation during life (Cal.
I 25;142 cf. royal conf. 26 Nov. 1189, ibid. p. 309); conf. by bp. Reginald 27 Nov.
1189 × 27 Nov. 1191 (EEA X no. 156). Annual payment of 100s from church, to
be paid by prior and monks of Bath, established as preb. of Wells by bp. Reginald
8 Nov. 1186 × 27 Nov. 1191 (ibid. no. 72, cf. no. 187); undertaking by Walter
prior of Bath, after 1174, to pay 100s annually in perpetuity for a preb. in Wells
(Cal. I 25; cf. also Chart. Bath II 4 (no. 5), 6-7 (no. 18)).
Annual pension in Carhampton had prob. ceased to be a preb. by the time the
payment of 100s was conf. to the chapter (prob. communa) by bp. Roger 13 Aug.
1246 (Cal. I 306); conf. to communa by abp. John Pecham 17 Oct. 1281 (ibid. p.
149).
Priors of Bath did not hold preb. of Carhampton (pace 2 Fasti VIII 21). The
church was appropriated to Bath, for the dependent priory of Dunster (Som.), with
an annual pension of 100s (= £5) being paid to Wells, as a preb. in the late 12th
and early 13th centuries, and thereafter as part of the communa.
Valuation 1291 church of Carhampton £3 (priory of Dunster), pension of church
of Wells in same £5, vicar £4 13s 4d (Taxatio p. 198b).

Robert Buzun
Prob. to be identified with Robert parson of Carhampton, mentioned in prior
Walter's ch. (Cal. I 25). Occ. as Robert Bozon clerk, witness to ch. of Simon Buzun
granting church as preb. 1175 × 89 (ibid.). Had gr. of this preb. from bp. Reginald
after 1175 (EEA X app. I no. 24). Conf. by bp. Savaric 19 Sept. 1192 × Lent 1195
(ibid. no. 254). His preb. exempted from episcopal charges Lent 1195 × 8 Aug.
1205 (ibid. no. 255). Presum. a relative of the donor and patron Simon Buzun
(ibid. nos. 71, 72 note, 256).
Reginald Buzun
As Reginald clerk, he was pres. to this preb. by his father, Simon Buzun, and
conf. by bp. Savaric Lent 1195 × 8 Aug. 1205 (EEA X no. 256).143 Occ. as Reginald
Butun can. at el. of bp. Jocelin, early 1206 (below, app. 2 no. 20).
