Church of Dulcote established as preb. by bp. Robert (EEA X no. 46, for which see below, app. 1; cf. Cal. I 53 and EEA X no. 49). Papal confs. 22 Jan. 1158 and 15 June 1176 (PUE II nos. 101, 159).

First occ. as can. 7 and 9 Aug. 1239 (Cal. Ch. Rolls V 29). Occ. frequently (e.g. Cal. I 77, 121-3, 126; below, app. 3 no. 19). Occ. as this preb. Apr. 1257 (Som. Pleas I, ed. C. E. H. Chadwyck-Healey (SRS xi, 1897) no. 1436). Last occ. as can. 5 March 1260 (below, app. 3 no. 19 G). D. or res. as this preb., called M. Walter de Gersington, before 13 May 1264 (CPR 1258-66 p. 317). Possibly to be identified with Walter, brother of Geoffrey of Cossington, who occ. 14 July 1261 (Chart. Glastonbury I 118).

Can., adm. 3 Sept. 1263 to preb. Holcombe (list 42). Occ. as can. several times in 1264 (e.g. Chart. Bath II 64 (nos. 296-7), 66 (no. 308); Cal. I 101, 103). Transf. to this preb. (by exch. from Holcombe), royal gr. in succession to M. Walter of Cossington, s.v., 13 May 1264 (CPR 1258-66 p. 317; list 42). Archdcn. of Barnstaple, coll. 8 Nov. 1265 (Reg. Bronescombe II no. 603). Archdcn. of Wells, gr. 3 March 1267, so presum. transf. to preb. Huish and Brent (list 43).

Next identified preb. is Michael of Droxford, who was coll. 2 Oct. 1316 (Reg. Drokensford p. 113; cf. cancelled entry, ibid. p. 40 (Reg. Droxford fo. 35v), of 31 March 1311) and see 2 Fasti VIII 44.
