Note on editorial method
For the sake of convenience, the text has been divided into short sections,
each of which has been assigned a serial number printed in bold type. The
Latin text of each section is followed by notes, where these are necessary,
printed in smaller type, and then by a translation. Emendations are printed
in italic and enclosed in squared brackets when they are conjectural.
Punctuation has been freely added, but capital letters have been used
sparingly. Contractions have been extended wherever possible but the
customary abbreviations for units of money have been retained (that is
li., s., d., ob., and m.). Three dots indicate portions of the document which
are illegible.
