Sunderland's Bill:
Hodie 3a
vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act
for vesting certain Lands and Tenements of Peter
Sunderland Esquire in Trustees, to be sold, for
Payment of Debts charged thereon before the making of his Marriage Settlement, and by virtue
thereof."
The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall
pass?"
It was Resolved in the Affirmative.
Message to H. C. with it.
A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by
Sir Thomas Gery and Mr. Rogers:
To carry down the said Bill, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.
Hackney Coaches, &c. Bill.
The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the Bill,
intituled, "An Act for the better regulating Hackney
Coaches, Carts, Drays, Cars, and Waggons, within
the Cities of London and Westminster, and the Weekly
Bills of Mortality; and for preventing Mischiefs occasioned by the Drivers riding upon such Carts, Drays,
Cars, and Waggons."
And, after some Time spent therein, the House was
resumed.
And the Earl of Clarendon reported from the said
Committee, "That they had been in Consideration of
the said Bill, and heard the Commissioners for Regulating Hackney Coaches in relation to some Part
thereof; and that the Committee had made some further Progress therein; and directed him to move, that
they may have Leave to sit again."
Ordered, That this House shall be put into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of the
said Bill, on this Day Three Weeks.
The several Orders of the Day being read:
Highways Bill.
Ordered, That this House shall be put into a
Committee of the whole House upon the Bill, intituled,
"An Act for making the Laws for repairing the Highways more effectual, and for the better paving and
cleansing the Streets in the City of London, and
Suburbs thereof," on Friday next.
Oaths, Time to take, to prolong, Bill.
Ordered, That this House shall be put into a Committee of the whole House upon the Bill, intituled,
"An Act for prolonging the Time for Persons to take
the Oaths, pursuant to the Act for the further Security of His Majesty's Person and Government; and the
Succession of the Crown in the Heirs of the late
Princess Sophia, being Protestants; and for extinguishing the Hopes of the pretended Prince of Wales,
and his open and secret Abettors," on Friday
next.
Bribery in Elections, &c. to prevent, Bill.
Ordered, That this House shall be put into a
Committee of the whole House upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the more effectual preventing the
Abuses of Sheriffs and other Returning Officers, in
not returning the Writs of Summons in due Time;
and for preventing Bribery and Corruption in the
Elections of Members to serve in Parliament," on
To-morrow Three Weeks.
Assizes, Cornwall, Bill.
The Earl of Radnor reported from the Committee of
the whole House, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An
Act for holding the Assize for the County of Cornwal
at a convenient Place within the said County,"
was committed, the Amendments made by the Committee to the said Bill.
Which were read Twice, and severally agreed to by
the House; and are as follow:
"Press 1. L. 6. Leave out from ["County"] to
["for"], in the 23d Line of the same Press; and
instead thereof insert ["which constant Holding has
been oftentimes found inconvenient"].
"L. 31. After ["Sixteen"], insert ["the Holding
of the Assizes and General Gaol Delivery for the said
County shall not be confined to the said Town of
Launceston; but that"].
