PRAYERS.

Norwich Volunteers.

AN Order for making of Lionell Sherwood and Hamand Craske Captains of the Volunteers in the City of Norwich (which was the like with that for Yarmouth) was read; and, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence.

Fortifying Norwich.

Whereas the City of Norwich hath advanced, upon the Propositions, Four thousand Six hundred Pounds, whereof Three thousand Pounds are paid into the Treasurers at Guildhall: And whereas the Townsmen desire that Eight Pieces of Ordnance, and Ammunition proportionable, may be allowed them out of their Proposition Monies, in regard .. the Danger that That City may be in, if her Majesty land in that County; and that they may fortify themselves for the Defence of that Place: It is this Day Ordered, by the Lords and Commons, in Parliament assembled, That four hundred Pounds in Money and Plate, of the Proposition Monies yet remaining in the Hands of the Committees at Norwich, shall be employed by them in Buying of the said Pieces of Ordnance, and Fortifying of the said City.

Oats seized in the Mews.

Ordered, That Mr. Darley shall be joined with the Commissary, or such others as the Lord General shall appoint, to see the Oats seized in the Mews by Order of this House, disposed of, upon Account, for the Use of the Army: And that the Monies due to Mr. Manley, the Purveyor for the Oats, that provided these Oats, shall be paid him out of the Monies that come into the Exchequer.

Nayle's Proposition.

Ordered, That the Proposition of Nicolas Nayle, an Irishman, to supply the Province of Munster with Wheat, be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland.

Citizens to open their Shops.

That the Lord Mayor be moved to give Order, That the Citizens may open their Shops.

The Lords to concur herein.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Strode went up with Yesterday's Message, and the Message appointed on Saturday last; and was appointed to desire the Lords to sit awhile.

Seizing, &c. of Horses.

Ordered, That the Committee, and Order, for Seizing and Discharging of Horses * * * *.

Raising Money.

An Order for the Enlarging and Making of some Additions to the late Ordinance for Assessing and Raising of Monies in the Cities of London and Westminster, and Suburbs, was read; and, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto.

Ordered, That, on Thursday next, the House shall take into Consideration the farther providing of Monies.

Ordered, That such as have contributed, and their Contributions accepted, and that shall bring their Acquittances to Mr. Speaker, shall have his Warrant to protect them from plundering, or having any Wrong done unto them by any of the Officers or Soldiers of the Army, under the Command of my Lord General the Earl of Essex, or any other Forces raised by Parliament.

Provisions for Army.

The Names of such as are to be recommended to the Parliament, for the Execution of the Order concerning Provisions for the Parliament Forces in the County of Bucks, &c.

An Order for the Making of Provisions in the several Counties for Relief of the Parliament Forces was this Day read; and, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto; and carried up unto the Lords, for their Concurrence.

Defence of Bristoll.

Ordered, That the Mayor, Aldermen, Sheriffs, Deputy Lieutenants, and other Officers, and Magistrates, of the City of Bristoll, be hereby authorized and required to take into their City such Forces of Foot and Horse as the Lord General, or the Deputy Lieutenants of the Counties of Gloucester and Somersett, or any two of them, shall think fit to send in, for the Defence and Safety of the said City: And likewise to suffer and permit such farther Acts to be done and executed here, as shall be thought fit by the said Deputy Lieutenants, or any two of them, for the better Security of the said City, and Places adjacent.

Defence of Southampton.

The like Order to be made for the Town of Southampton, mutatis mutandis: And that the Clerk be enabled to deliver out Copies of the same Order accordingly.

Answer from Lords.

Mr. Strode brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Orders brought up by him; and to the Addition of the Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Bedford: But as to the other Part of his Message, concerning moving their Members and Assistants to contribute, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Message to Lords.

Sir H. Vane carried up to the Lords the Commission for well-affected Persons to set forth Ships for the Defence of the Northern Counties; the Orders for Lionell Sherwood and Hamond Craske, to be Captains of the Volunteers in the City of Norwich; the Order for the said City to have Eight Pieces of Ordnance; the Ordinance concerning Mr. Pickering in Scotland; the Order concerning Cheshire; the Order concerning the Merchant Adventurers; the Order for Additions and Explanations to be made to the Order for Assessing of Monies in the Cities of London, and Suburbs, &c.; the Order for Provisions in the several Counties for the Parliament Forces; the Names of the Committees for those Provisions in the County of Bucks; the Order for the Citizens to open their Shops: And was to move, That the late Ordinance for assessing Monies, with the Additions and Explanations now carried up, might be forthwith printed; and that the Lords would sit awhile.

Ditto.

Mr. Holles carried up to the Lords, the Order for Bristol: And was to move the Lords, That the like might be made for Southampton. He likewise carried up an Order for giving the Publick Faith to such as should contribute to the Defence of the County of Sussex: The which was read here; and, by Vote upon the Question, assented. He was likewise to move the Lords, that they would summon the Earl of Thanett to give an Account of his Fact, in sending Forces into Chichester, against the Parliament.

Members to attend.

Ordered, That the Burgesses that serve for the Town of Southampton, be summoned forthwith to attend the Service of the House; all Delays and Excuses set apart.

Ordered, That Mr. Jo. Alford be summoned forthwith to attend the Service of the House.

Answer from Lords.

Sir H. Vane brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to all the Orders and Ordinances carried up by him; and that the Ordinance concerning the Assessing of Monies in the Cities of London and Westminster, and the Suburbs, with the Additions and Explanations, be printed; and likewise that the Order for Provisions for the Army to be made in the several Counties, be printed.

Nominating Sheriffs.

Ordered, That this Declaration concerning the Nominating and electing of Sheriffs, be re-committed unto all the Lawyers of the House: And they are to meet this Afternoon, at Three of Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber: And they are to bring it in on Thursday Morning next: And the Care of it is especially recommended unto Mr. Serjeant Wilde.

Mr. Holles brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Orders concerning Bristoll and Southampton; and to the Order concerning Sussex.

Letter to Bristoll.

And Mr. Holles is appointed to write a Letter to the City of Bristoll to this Purpose.

Preston Writ.

Resolved, upon the Question, That Mr. Speaker shall issue forth his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery, to make forth a new Writ, for Electing of another Burgess to serve for the Town of Preston in the County of Lancashire, in the Stead of Mr. Tho. Standish, formerly chosen to serve for that Town, and since deceased.

Defence of Isle of Wight.

Ordered, That Mr. Glyn and Mr. Browne do prepare an Order that may be agreeable to the Act of Parliament for the Paying of Seven hundred and Fifty Pounds remaining in the Hands of the Collectors of the Isle of Wight, to be paid upon Account, into the Hands of Lieutenant Colonel Carne, to be employed in Providing of such Necessaries as shall be requisite for the Defence and safety of that Place.

Peake's, &c. Indemnity.

WHEREAS Edward Peake, Thomas Wilson, Robert Freind, John Mandey, John Mace, Mathew Stocks, Jervas Shelvey, Thomas Basset, John Boatman, William Owen, have, by Warrants from the Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Kent, brought up to the Commons House of Parliament, Hopestill Tilden Jurate of Sandwich, Robert Jeggard Town Clerk, Robert Lovell Rector of St. Peter's Parish, in Sandwich aforesaid: The House doth Declare, That it is an acceptable Service in the said Persons, or any other that assisted them, in the Apprehending and Bringing up of the said Persons: And that they shall be saved harmless and indemnified by this House.
