Friday June 3. Present:—Lord Clare, Mr. Jenyns, Mr.
Fitzherbert, Mr. Dyson, Mr. Robinson.
Virginia.
Read a letter from the Earl of Hillsborough, one of his
Majesty's principal Secretaries of State, dated June 2nd, 1768,
transmitting, for the Board's information, a scheme for emitting
a paper currency in Virginia.
Upon referring to the journal of the House of Burgesses of the
said province, it appeared, that the above scheme having been
laid before his Majesty's Council in that province, and conference
had between the managers on each side relative thereto, the said
Council had disapproved of the scheme, and signified, their dissent
accordingly.

Ordered, that the draught of a representation to his Majesty
upon the address of the House of Burgesses of Virginia, respecting
a paper currency; as also a representation upon the address of the
said House for settlements to the westward of the great Mountains,
be prepared.
Ordered, that Mr. Montagu, agent for the House of Burgesses
of Virginia, be desired to attend the Board on Tuesday, the 7th
instant.

Virginia.

Mr. Montagu attending pursuant to their lordships' order of the
3rd instant, was asked, whether he was apprized of the dissent
of the Council of Virginia from the scheme proposed by the
Assembly for issuing a paper currency, and upon his acknowledging that he was, their lordships made some observations as to the
impropriety of his omitting to communicate that circumstance
to the Board, at the time that he laid the said scheme before
them.
The draughts of representations to his Majesty upon the
addresses of the House of Burgesses of Virginia, respecting a
paper currency, and for settlements to the westward of the Great
Mountains, having been prepared pursuant to order, were
approved, and ordered to be transcribed.
New Jersey.
Their lordships took into consideration an Act passed in the
province of New Jersey in June, 1767, for quartering his Majesty's
troops; and the draught of a representation to his Majesty
thereupon, having been prepared, was approved and ordered to be
transcribed.

Nova Scotia.
Their lordships then took into consideration three Acts passed
in his Majesty's province of Nova Scotia in October, 1767, together
with Sir Matthew Lamb's report thereupon, and the said Acts
and report were read.
Jamaica.
Read a letter from Roger Hope Elletson, Esquire, Lieutenant
Governor of Jamaica, to the Board, dated March 18th, 1768,
signifying his having suspended seven of his Majesty's Council
in that island; and assigning his motives for so doing; also
inclosing
A printed paper containing several speeches to the Council
and Assembly, with their addresses in answer thereto.
List of laws passed in the island of Jamaica in December,
1767, and of minutes of Council and Assembly.

The draughts of representations to his Majesty upon the
addresses of the House of Burgesses of Virginia, relative to a
paper currency and settlements to the westward of the Great
Mountains, having been transcribed pursuant to order, were
signed; also letters to the Earl of Hillsborough inclosing them.
New Jersey.
A representation to his Majesty upon the New Jersey Act for
quartering the troops, having been prepared pursuant to order,
was signed.
Grenada.
fo. 121.
Read a letter from the Earl of Hillsborough, dated June 6th,
1768, refering to the Board, for their consideration and report,
an ordinance of the Governor of Grenada for establishing a
general Council in Tobago; and inclosing a petition to the
Governor from the principal proprietors of land in that island,
requesting such establishment.
Their lordships took the said reference into consideration, and
the draught of a representation to his Majesty thereupon having
been prepared, was approved, transcribed and signed.
New Jersey.
Their lordships then took into consideration twelve Acts passed
in the province of New Jersey in June, 1767, together with Sir
Matthew Lamb's report thereupon, and the said Acts and report
were read.
Massachusetts.
The Secretary laid before the Board twelve laws passed in the
province of Massachusets Bay in February and March, 1768; and
it was ordered, that they should be sent to Sir Matthew Lamb,
for his opinion thereupon in point of law.

Carolina, to the Board, dated March 14th, 1768, relative
to his appointment of Associate Justices.

Letter from Sir Henry Moore, Governor of New York, to the
Board, dated April 22nd, 1768, recommending Mr. Robert
Livingston to be appointed to the Council in that province,

seat at that Board.
Copy of a letter from Sir Henry Moore to the Earl of Shelburne, dated April 7th, 1767, proposing an addition to be
made to the number of councillors.
East Florida.
Duplicate of a letter, No. 15, from James Grant, Esquire,
Governor of East Florida, to the Earl of Shelburne, dated
March 12th, 1768, relative to the Indians; the progress of
settlements; and the appointment of Sir Charles Burdett
to be a member of the Council for that province.

Plantations General.
Letter from Sir William Johnson, Superintendant of Indian
Affairs in the Northern district, to the Board, dated
March 14th, 1768, relative to the present temper of the
Indians in that district.
Quebec.
Copies of two ordinances passed in the province of Quebec,
the 23rd of February, 1768, concerning the licencing of
publick victualling houses, and for preventing accidents
by fire, received from the Secretary of State's Office, were
laid before the Board.
Ordered, that the above ordinances be sent to Sir Matthew
Lamb, for his opinion thereupon in point of law.
