Governor Pitt, for perusal of papers.
Mr. Pitt, Govr. of Jamaica [fos. 62, 114], attending and desiring
to have the perusal of the last letter and papers received by the
Board, from the Lord Archibald Hamilton, directions were given for
sending to him the following letter and papers vizt.:—

A letter from Sir Peter Delme, dated this day, relating to the
queries communicated to him and other Portugal merchants the
21st of the last month about our trade and settlements in the
Brazils, was read.
Letter from Mr. Howard.

Answer preparing.
A letter from Mr. Howard of this days date, relating to an answer
which some of the Portugal merchants are preparing, to the said
queries, was read; whereupon ordered that Mr. Howard be acquainted with the Board's desire that as soon as the said answer is signed
by the merchants, it be transmitted to the secry. to be laid before
their lordships at their first meeting after it shall be received.

Letter to Mr. Carkesse.
Their lordships being informed that pursuant to their desire
signified to Mr. Lowndes, the 25th of July last, for an account of
the annual net produce of the duty of 4½ per cent. in the Leeward
Islands since the year 1702, he had writ to the honble. the Commrs.
of his Majesty's Customs for the said account, but the same not
being yet received, ordered that a letter be writ to Mr. Carkesse
to desire him to move the said Commrs. that it may be dispatched
with all convenient speed.

A letter from Col. Spotswood Lieut. Govr. of Virginia, dated
the 3rd July, 1716, relating to a nest of pirates endeavouring to
settle themselves at the Bahama Islands, was read, together with
the following papers therein referred to vizt.:—

in June, 1716, concerning the disorders at Providence.
Copy of the instructions from Colonel Spotswood, Lt. Govr. of
Virginia to Capt. Henry Beverley of the sloop Virgin, bound
to the Bahama Islands in quest of pirates.

Whereupon directions were given for preparing the draught of
a letter to Mr. Secry. Methuen.

Acts.
A letter from Mr. Bampfield to the Secry., dated this day, desiring
him in behalf of some of the persons concerned to move the Board
that an Act passed in Jamaica in 1703, intituled an Act to confirm
an agreement made between Olivia Read widow and Nathaniel Brown
and Petronella his wife &c., and an Act passed in Antigua the 29th
Octr., 1715, intituled an Act to enable Richard Cochran and Archibald
Cochran esqrs. to sell and dispose of certain lands in Old North Sound,
may be laid before his Royal Highness for confirmation, was read;
whereupon ordered that the last mentioned act and a copy of the
first be sent to Mr. Sollicitor General for his opinion in point of law.

The draught of a Ire. to Mr. Secry. Methuen, ordered to be prepared
the 10th instant upon that from Col. Spotswood relating to a nest
of pirates endeavouring to settle themselves at the Bahama Islands,
was agreed and signed.

The answer of several Portugal merchants, to the queries delivered
to Mr. Watts the 21st of the last month, relating to the English
settlements in the Brazils, being now received, was read.

His answer to Colonel Spotswood's charge.
Mr. Byrd, late Receiver General of Virginia, attending, presented
to their lordships his answer to the charge exhibited against him
by Col. Spotswood Lt. Govr. of that colony, which their lordships
resolved to take into consideration, the first convenient opportunity.

Order of Council.
Mr. Keith, deputy Governor.
An Order of Council of the 13th Septr., 1716, upon the recomendation of Mr. Penn and his trustees, for Mr. Keith to be deputy
Govr. of Pennsylvania, was read, and their lordships resolved to
take the same into consideration the first opportunity.
Letter from Perry and Hyde to be sureties.
Letter from Mr. Perry and Mr. Hyde, offering to be sureties for
Mr. Keith to be deputy Govr. of Pennsylvania, was read.
Antigua.
Act about Andrew Murray.
Sent to Solicitor General.
An Act passed at Antigua the 24th of May, 1716, intituled an
Act to inable Andrew Murray of this island of Antigua, planter, and
Elizabeth his wife to alien or settle by deed certain lands and tenements
within the said island of Antigua and to make such deeds effectual to
bar all estates tail created or in being, being laid before the Board,
ordered that the same be sent to Mr. Solicitor General for his
opinion thereupon in point of law.

Sent to Solicitor General.
An Act passed at Barbadoes the 31st of May, 1716, intituled, an
Act to dock the intail limited on a certain plantation situate in the
parish of St. Michael, and to enable Thomas Summers esqr. to sell
the same, with the negro slaves thereunto belonging, being likewise
laid before the Board, was sent to Mr. Solicitor General for his
opinion thereupon in point of law.
