Prefatory Note

The Text of this Volume was completed by the late Dr. Shaw before the War. He also wrote the Introduction, but the Statement of Revenue and Expenditure and the Declared Accounts have been abstracted by Mr. F. H. Slingsby, an Assistant Keeper of the Public Records.

A longer Note on the work of the late Dr. Shaw for the Public Record Office, and on the publication of thirteen volumes (of which the present is one) in the state in which he left them, is prefixed to Volume XX of this series.

5 April, 1950.

HILARY JENKINSON.
